Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Refuse
We are at a crossroads. In fundamental ways, both large and small, we can no longer afford to ignore the impact of our choices. However, with this realization comes POWER. We have the power to make responsible and healthy choices in what we purchase, what we eat, and how we live. For every unhealthy, unsustainable, and short-sighted choice we are presented with, we have the power to REFUSE.
* We can REFUSE to purchase single, limited-use, and unnecessary plastic products.
* We can REFUSE to support the industries that are poisoning our planet with countless tons of plastic products.
* And we can REFUSE to support politicians and policies that aren’t committed to the health and well-being of our families and the environment.
Of course, the other side of the power to REFUSE is the transformative power to consciously and wisely choose! All of us have the ability to do both.
Reduce
As a species, we have become totally dependent on single-use/throwaway items. They are convenient to use and often make life easier—in the short run. In the long run, this reliance has become an addiction. And just as drug addiction leads to illness, and often to an untimely death, there are serious consequences to our addiction to single-use/throwaway items like plastic.
What initially was a pursuit of convenience has grown exponentially over the past 50-60 years and has brought us to a critical point in our survival. We know, for example, that plastic permeates all of our oceans and has sickened and killed millions of marine animals—from plankton to whales. This must not continue; it is clear that we must change course. As individuals, we can take action by reducing our use of plastics as much as possible. As an organization, we at Uni-Bottles support the worldwide movement to end our dependency on plastics and on other single-use/throwaway items.
Reuse
Before the introduction of plastic and the destructive role it’s played in our lives, we expected our belongings to last for a long time. We were much less likely to throw things away when they showed signs of aging. Whenever possible, we would repair, refinish, and/or restore them so they could be reused. It was less wasteful, more economical, and better for the environment.
One way we can contribute to the Refuse and Reduce principles is to extend the useful life of our belongings whenever possible. As an organization, we at Uni-Bottles make this offer to our customers: If you purchase any Uni-Bottles drinkware product that becomes damaged or worn through ordinary use and is repairable, send it to us and for a nominal fee, we will be happy to restore it to new condition.
Recycle
Americans throw away approximately 2.5 million plastic bottles per hour! While this may seem like an impossible problem to overcome, we can make a huge difference with some relatively simple changes as consumers. One of the easiest things we all can do is to buy reusable bottles and tumblers instead of single use plastic cups and bottles. As individuals and collectively, we can have an effect on global plastic waste.
At Uni-bottles, 100% of our products are recyclable. Stainless steel is a desirable metal for recycling and almost every city or town that offers recycling will gladly take metal. If a Uni-Bottles customer with no available local recycling finds that one of our products is no longer useful to them, they can simply send it to us. We will recycle it through an agreement with a conscientious local recycling plant. The customer will receive a 30% discount coupon towards the purchase of a new Uni-Bottle product.
